An elderly woman was seriously injured when a car struck her while she was crossing a suburban street in Canberra's north, ACT police say.
The 77-year-old woman was walking across Verbrugghen Street, near the intersection with Brownlee Place in Melba, around 6am on Thursday when a car knocked her to the ground.
Instead of stopping to assist her, police allege its driver fled the scene.
Officers believe the car was a mid to late 1990s Suzuki Swift.
The vehicle will have sustained damage to its left side.
Anyone who witnessed this hit and run, or who can identify the car involved, should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via act.crimestoppers.com.au.
