More than 1700 homes were without power in parts of Canberra on Monday after wild winds pushed trees and branches onto power lines.

An ActewAGL spokesman said the first fallen tree caused an outage about 9.30am that affected 1055 customers in Higgins, Holt and Latham. Electricity was restored to all affected houses by 10.45am.
Up to 80 customers in Cook lost power from late morning, with electricity restored by 1.50pm.
Nearby in Hawker, electricity was cut for less than half an hour from about noon.
Canberra's south wasn't left unscathed, with about 37 houses without power from 2.50pm. Electricity was expected to be restored by 4pm.
Meanwhile, 540 homes across Crace, Kaleen and Mitchell experienced a brief 10-minute outage mid-afternoon.
The spokesman advised homeowners to stay clear of any fallen powerlines or damaged electrical equipment with strong winds expected on Monday and Tuesday.
Damage should be reported to ActewAGL's 24-hour faults and emergencies line on 13 10 93. Sparking or a fire should be reported via 000 immediately.
