Landspeed Records in Civic is gearing up for one of its busiest trading days on Saturday with a celebration of Record Store Day.
Owner Blake Budak said last year's event was the store's busiest day's trade in 20 years.
The event, held on the third Saturday in April, was started in the US in 2007 as a way of celebrating the unique culture of independently owned record stores.
Mr Budak said limited release and exclusive vinyl records were up for grabs on Saturday, as well as second-hand vinyl.
"Around the world, they do a series of limited edition, vinyl-only releases available especially for the day and they get divided among the participating stores, so some of the things, we might only have two copies to sell," Mr Budak said.
He said the limited edition releases available included special releases from popular artists such as Tame Impala and Bruce Springsteen.
"A lot of them won't be released in any other format," he said.
"A big part of the day is the exclusive releases but people also like to come out and support an independent record store."
Recent data from the Australian Recording Industry Association showed vinyl sales have risen by 77 per cent in the past year.
Mr Budak said Australia's love affair with vinyl was showing no signs of waning.
"I think vinyl has a romantic quality that people really like. It's always been cool and it's back being really popular again," he said.
"With vinyl, there's the tangible aspect, the collectable aspect, and also it has a lot warmer sound. Those are the things I think people really love about it."
Mr Budak said he was expecting as many as 1000 people to walk through the doors on Saturday and join in the celebrations.
"Last year, when we opened the doors at 10am, there was close to 100 people waiting. That was just insane," he said.
