Seven-year-old Oscar, the youngest, is especially interested in cycling, like the Tour de France idol.
The whole family was in Paris when Evans won last year's event and this gave extra fuel to their passion for fun on two wheels.
All six of them - mum Belinda, dad Andrew and kids Chelsea and Jessica, both 10, Mia, 8, and Oscar, will cycle at this year's Big Canberra Bike Ride.
This event, Canberra's biggest mass participation bike ride, is planned for March 18 and was launched yesterday.
Taking their cue from Andrew, who rode in the 105km event last year, they'll be doing the 28km family ride.
To get ready, they're keeping up their regime of cycling in Stromlo twice a week and Sunday rides around the lake.
Belinda said the key to getting an entire family off the couch and on to bikes was to have mum and dad showing the kids how it's done.
''If the parents do it, the kids follow. Set the example: if you show it's fun, they'll have a good time too.''
At the launch, former Tour de France cyclist Stephen Hodge was on hand to pass on some cycling tips. Fighting fatigue was a question of regular practise and the best way to get started was to turn it into a social activity.
''Everyone I know who rides is happier, healthier and more productive.''
He also emphasised cycling's benefits for cardiovascular health and as a means to battle mental illness.
''Ride on the fantastic paths around Canberra and you'll soon get hooked.''
This year's Big Canberra Bike ride, incorporating Amy's Ride, is a partnership with Pedal Power ACT, the Amy Gillett Foundation and the Heart Foundation.
Amy Gillett Foundation chief executive Tracey Gaudry highlighted the importance of cyclist safety.
Nationally, cyclists represented one in 40 traffic crash fatalities and one in seven serious injuries.
''Motorist safety is embraced as fundamental for our community, cyclist safety is also fundamental,'' Ms Gaudry said. Besides the 28km family route, there will be 68km and 105km routes.
