Fatal accident at Wamboin

Date

Hamish Boland-Rudder, Christopher Knaus

A local man has died in a single vehicle accident in the early hours of this morning at Wamboin, just east of Canberra.

Police were called to the accident on Norton Road shortly after midnight.

It appears a ute, driven by a 47-year-old Wamboin man, was travelling eastbound, when the vehicle crossed to the other side of the road while on a bend, and collided with a solid concrete mailbox.

The vehicle then carried on down the road and became airborne before hitting an embankment, rolling, and finishing up in trees.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the accident.

He died at the scene.

Police say there were no witnesses to the crash.

Queanbeyan police are still waiting on a post-mortem and will prepare a report for the coroner.
