ACT Fire & Rescue were out at the scene on Chandler Street after an automatic alarm went off at 3:46am on Tuesday morning, evacuating 300 students from the building.
The team found burnt food on the floor and extinguished the small fire.
The ground floor has been significantly water damaged after the building's fire sprinkler system went off, which forced the evacuation.
New rooms were being found for 30 students as of Tuesdy morning while the damage is repaired at the lodge.
The rest of the residents have been allowed to return to the building.
