ACT Emergency Services Agency commissioner Dominic Lane said the blaze, east of Potters Hill, had burned fewer than 200 hectares, which was a credit to fire crews on the ground.
The agency said the fire began on Sunday as a prescribed burn, and severe conditions that were not forecast at the time had caused the flames to jump containment lines.
On Monday, firefighters from across the ACT and New South Wales had the blaze controlled and back within containment lines.
Six aircraft were on the scene, along with 19 tankers, five fire dozers, three water tanks, a grader and a fuel truck.
The bushfire alert and warning level has been set at "advice". The fire danger rating in the area is "very high".
