Car parks directly across from Floriade along Commonwealth Avenue filled up on Sunday which prompted a jam of drivers wanting to find spaces.
As of Sunday afternoon, organisers wanted the media to send the message to potential visitors to park in Barton or Parkes and walk or catch a bus to Floriade.
"It's a safe bet," a Floriade spokeswoman said.
"Rather than getting angry and frustrated it will ensure the experience is happy and fun."
Some construction work in car parks at Constitution Avenue and in a small number of parking areas along Commonwealth Avenue mean there were fewer parking spaces than in previous years, she said.
Sunday marked the end of a week celebrating all things food and wine in Floriade's Inspiration Hub.
Adelaide-based Chris Stephan from Kitchen Stage Management hosted a series of demonstrations and workshops across the week, which each incorporated local food and wine producers and experts.
"We have come in to the Canberra region as out-of-towners and we were just blown away by the local produce that you've got," she said.
"It's just astounding. We think Canberra's a food and wine pocket that needs to be explored."
Sunday's particular focus was on sparkling wine, with Fergus McGhie from Mount Majura Vineyards teaming up with Stephan to present on all things bubbly.
"We talked about the process of making a sparkling wine and what to look for in a good sparkling wine. Then we matched it with some beautiful, locally produced products," she said.
"We had white sparkling matched with some oysters from C Dine Bar and also smoked salmon from Pialligo Estate, and then a sparkling red from Gallagher Wines and we talked about it working with a really rich, smoked duck."
Family and Community Day is the beginning of week three of Floriade, with seven days dedicated to family fun.
As of Sunday afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology predicted a stunning spring day for the public holiday on Monday.
Monday's forecast included sun, no rain, a maximum of 23 degrees and a light evening breeze.
What's on Family and Community Day
From 8am Floriade has a jam-packed day of events, starting with the Heart Foundation Early Morning work bright and early at 8 o'clock. At 9am, the Royal Australian Mint Hologram display will be on, including the newly released Orion coin, and from 10am you can try out netball and meet the Canberra Darters. The afternoon has cooking demonstrations from chef Claude Fremy at 1.30, 2.30 and 3.30pm. For the full program visit floriadeaustralia.com.
From 10am Head to the National Arboretum for a day of activities for the whole family. Take a ride in a Clydesdale horse-drawn carriage ($10 per person). Meet at the Canberra Discovery Garden, next to the Events Terrace. Or make and fly a kite in the amphitheatre ($10 per kite). Meet at the information desk in the Village Centre. 10am-3pm. From 11am Celebrate Family and Community Day on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin with free children's entertainment.
