The survey of more than 1000 people nationwide revealed more than half of respondents did not get enough sleep every night, with 60 per cent sleeping seven hours or less.
There were plenty of tired Canberrans out there, with 31 per cent of locals getting less than seven hours of sleep each night.
The survey also found 38 per cent of Canberrans reported being annoyed by their partner snoring, and 19 per cent were annoyed by their partner stealing the bed covers. More than a third of ACT respondents slept alone.
Dr Harrington said on average a healthy sleep was considered a solid eight hour period, between about 10pm and 6am.
''If you are waking in the night, it is a good idea to evaluate your sleep habits to see if there is anything you are doing that may be affecting how you sleep,'' she said.
''Stay away from caffeine in the afternoon, do not eat a big meal within three hours of bedtime and switch off the computer at least one hour before going to bed.''
