The party stalwart was among to 170 Canberra Liberals who packed into a party meeting in the capital’s south on Tuesday night, the last such gathering before next week’s preselection showdown.

Many of those members who attended on Tuesday were there to register as eligible voters for the Divisional Council on March 27, the precursor to a repeat Senate preselection battle between incumbent Gary Humphries and former local leader Zed Seselja.

It is estimated that about 350 of the party’s 640-strong local membership are now qualified to vote after Tuesday’s meeting at Manuka Oval’s Bradman room last night.

The meeting next week will decide whether Mr Seselja’s victory on February 23, when 198 votes were cast, will be overturned and a new preselection held.

The exclusion of party elders like Mrs Reid and property magnate and heavyweight fundraiser Bob Winnel, as well as hundreds of grassroots members, from the initial contest angered many of the Liberals faithful.

Mr Winnel, local party's greatest fund-raiser managed to register as a preselector on February 28 on his fourth attempt.

Mrs Reid declined to comment on Wednesday.

“I’m not talking to anyone about that,” she told The Canberra Times.
