Gary John Fahey, 40, pleaded guilty in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday to a charge of fraud.
Fahey had been originally charged with 64 counts of dishonesty causing a risk of loss to a Commonwealth entity, however, the remaining charges were withdrawn as a result of the plea.
Fahey, who was an executive officer to Commissioner Andrew Colvin, used his AFP-issued credit card between August, 2015 to November 2016 in a way that resulted in a $45,150 loss to the Commonwealth.
The court heard the offence has been committed in the context of gambling addiction, and the defence indicated it would provide psychological reports at sentence.
Magistrate Karen Fryar ordered the defence to file and serve any material to be relied upon a week before sentence.
Fahey, who lives in Brisbane, will reappear for sentence in October.
