The woman's accusations, made while she and her ex were locked in a bitter property dispute, saw the guard spend four months in the notorious Goulburn jail, where he feared for his life.

While her ex was in custody, the woman continued making allegations about his family, suggesting to police they had broken into her home and stolen from her.

Serious doubts began to emerge about the woman's claims during a covert investigation by ACT's Criminal Investigations detectives, and the prison guard was released.

One ACT police officer responsible for the initial investigation of the woman's claims quit the force while an internal investigation into the bungling of the case took place.

The woman's new partner, himself a NSW police officer, also faced extensive questioning in court about his knowledge of the allegations.

Prosecutors earlier this year accused the police officer of lying under oath to back up his girlfriend's story about being raped.

All charges were dropped against the guard, and the woman was subsequently charged with making a raft of false allegations from late-2013 to mid-2014.

She faced a hearing in the ACT Magistrates Court earlier this year, where Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker found her guilty on two counts of making false accusations and three of causing public mischief.

Ms Walker found she had led a "vendetta" against her ex, suggesting her actions may have been partly motivated by greed, but also by revenge and attention-seeking behaviour.

Now, the woman's lawyer, Michael Kukulies-Smith, has lodged an appeal against the convictions.

The appeal, to be heard in the ACT Supreme Court, alleges that the findings of guilt were unreasonable "having regard to all of the evidence".

Mr Kukulies-Smith will also argue the magistrate erred in finding that evidence about the woman's tendency to lie was cross-admissable between the various charges she faced.

The appeal also alleges Ms Walker inverted the burden of proof in one instance.

"The learned magistrate improperly concluded the appellant intended [her ex-boyfriend] be charged with sexual assault ... because no other explanation for the report was given by the appellant."

The magistrate is also said to have made findings of fact not available on the evidence, and of misconstruing the significance of the fact that one of the charges against the prison guard was laid before the woman made her report of sexual assault.

The appeal asks the ACT Supreme Court to set aside the findings of guilt, and enter verdicts of not guilty in their place.

The woman is on bail and pre-sentence and psychological reports are being prepared while she awaits sentencing on the charges.

Suspicions about her allegations arose when she told police her iPad was stolen from her home, her car was broken into at Canberra Hospital, and that she was run off the road and attacked with a knife on Horse Park Drive in Canberra's north.

The woman had suggested the prison guard's family may have been involved.

But a GPS tracker on her car suggested she planted the iPad outside her ex's family home, while CCTV footage appeared to conflict with her story about the hospital.

At a hearing in July, prosecutor Anthony Williamson had described her claims as "thoroughly absurd and ridiculous", and motivated by greed.

But Mr Kukulies-Smith said the case had not been proved, because it required the prosecution to establish beyond reasonable doubt the events did not happen.

He also criticised the prosecution for describing the woman's allegations as absurd, stating: "The elephant in the room is my friend's office filed indictments on these bases.

"The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the ACT now submits that it filed indictments alleging inherently implausible matters.

"It just seems beyond belief that such a submission could be made."

The appeal will come before the ACT Supreme Court for directions in November.
