But Jorian Gardner had to issue an on-air apology this morning as a condition of being cleared for live radio by his employers at Radio 2CC.

Mr Gardner made national headlines two weeks ago when he joked during his breakfast shift with full-time host Mark Parton that a Federal cabinet minister might wear a "penis cam" to meetings and film up the skirt of Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

The announcer, who is also his station's news director, was hit with a one week ban in the aftermath of the incident, later extended indefinitely as the fall-out from the gaffe went national.

Mr Gardner conceded to his listeners this morning that his joke, made while the two hosts were discussing proposal for police to wear "lapel cams", had gone too far.

"A few weeks ago I made a joke that may have stretched the bounds of good taste," he said on the 2CC morning show.

"It was a flippant remark in one of the segments that we do together Mark, and perhaps on this occasion I went a little too far.

"I apologise to any listener that may have been offended, Minister Conroy and the Prime Minister herself.

"I have served a longer suspension than first given by management – two weeks now – and reaffirmed my commitment to the codes of practice that govern broadcasting."

But Mr Gardner also had a swipe at what he believes was lazy reporting and the behaviour of "haters".

"The subsequent outrage was in my opinion a media beat up," he told his listeners.

"Most commentators decided to run the salacious parts of what I allegedly said – and not the substance of the issue.

"Most of the 'haters' out there didn't even hear what I said so a game of Chinese whispers occurred in the national media."
