Kaine Lock, 20, was arrested by ACT Policing on Thursday and has been charged with multiple offences over the attempted carjacking, including aggravated robbery, using a stolen vehicle and obtaining property by deception.

Lock was allegedly one of two men who, armed with a knife and pistol, attempted to hijack a car in Melba on December 30 and threatened the driver, according to a police media statement.

In January, ACT Policing released video of the incident and the people they believed were the offenders.

Police said the pair unsuccessfully attempted to enter a 7-Eleven store, before allegedly threatening to stab a man and then stealing his Toyota Camry from a street behind the Melba IGA.

The men are accused of using the victim's credit card in several fraudulent transactions, according to the police statement.

The stolen car was found in January and the two men were identified following forensic investigations.

Lock faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday morning, and was charged with a eight offences. He did not apply for bail.

The defendant will reappear on May 13.
