FEMALE brew masters are breaking the frothy glass ceiling with more women behind boutique breweries.
As part of Canberra Beer Week, a Women in beer night will be held at Elk & Pea and organiser Liz Young said some of Australia's best female brewers will answer questions about hops, barley, malt and yeast. ''Women have a great palate … but they are less than 10 per cent of our customers,'' Ms Young said.
As the co-owner of Plonk Beer & Wine Store, Ms Young said women often tried ciders but seemed unwilling to try different varieties of beer.
''They don't like VB or Carlton - that's the taste they don't like - they are really adventurous with ciders but they aren't adventurous with beer,'' she said.
Female brewers from Two Birds Brewery in Melbourne, Redoak Brewery in Sydney and Red Hill Brewery at the Mornington Peninsula are making the trek to Canberra.
