The alleged victim was said to have been detained for four hours and threatened with the rape of his partner and killing of his two daughters if he objected or called police.

Nigel Barlow, 36, had rented the shed in the backyard of a Richardson property since December but recently stopped paying for its use, leading to the landlord, who rents the block from ACT Housing, changing a lock on the backyard gate and selling some of the defendant's belongings, including cordless power tools.

On July 5 the unemployed defendant used an angle grinder to cut the new padlock and entered the home to threaten the resident, according to documents presented in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday.

"You better fix it and get the items back or I'll put you in a hole," the defendant allegedly said.

At 8am two days later Barlow allegedly entered the Richardson home and struck the landlord on the top of his head in a hallway with a blunt unidentified object. Barlow's girlfriend, Janelle Francis Lewis, 32, from Belconnen, and another intruder, were also observed in the home.

Court documents said the victim was allegedly driven to a Hume location where further demands to return the property were made and yellow electrical tape was wrapped around his eyes. Driven to a different home, the victim was allegedly assaulted on several occasions, including with kicks to the head, by a person he believed to be the defendant.

He was allegedly released from a vehicle at the Calwell shops about noon on Tuesday and walked home. He met police and was taken to Canberra Hospital, where he was found to have cuts to his head, near an eye and right cheek, and a fractured collarbone.

Prosecutor Paul Sweeney opposed bail based on fears of re-offending, harm to the landlord or his family and interference with evidence in what he described as a "nightmare scenario".

Mr Sweeney said the defendant had 23 criminal convictions, 18 of those in the last nine years. No pleas were entered on Saturday.

Magistrate Robert Cook rejected the duty defence lawyer's call for the defendant to be given bail, saying the risks of re-offending could not be managed with bail conditions.

Lewis, who allegedly drove a separate vehicle away from the Richardson home on July 7, was charged with aggravated burglary and being a party to an unlawful confinement. She was granted bail on strict conditions including not to contact a list of people, including Barlow.

The two cases, heard separately on Saturday, were adjourned to July 27.
