A spokeswoman for the Education and Training Directorate said Gowrie Primary would be reopened on May 12, five days after it was shut down following an electrical incident.

"Following extensive and exhaustive testing at the school, an electrical fault was identified in one of the buildings," the spokeswoman said.

"All necessary steps were undertaken and clearance has been provided by the regulatory authority for the school to be safety re-occupied.

"The safety of our school community is always paramount to our actions."

The Gowrie Primary School has been shut down on Tuesday after a staff member was hospitalised following an electrical accident at the campus.

The spokeswoman said a surface in the school had become electrified, due to a damaged electrical cable running between the building's plant room and an exhaust fan.

As a result of the accident, the school had been shut down and the staff and students sent to Birrigai School in Tidbinbilla on May 7 and 8.

On Friday, students were sent to alternative campuses around Tuggeranong. The preschool program at the school was relocated to Taylor Primary School.

The spokeswoman said the staff member who was injured had been released from hospital on the same day and the directorate was providing support to him.

She said this was second electrical incident at the school in recent times, the first of which had required the attendance of an electrician.

Shop owners in the area said they had seen an ambulance driving towards the large gates at the back of the school on Tuesday, as well as a team of workmen.

Australian Education Union ACT branch secretary Glenn Fowler said he'd been fully briefed and he was satisfied everyone involved had acted correctly.

"At this stage I'm confident it's all being managed professionally and appropriately," he said.
