Police have very serious concerns for the health and safety of a 69-year-old Latham man, missing since Thursday morning, and are appealing to the public to assist in his search.
Mijo Galinec left the general ward of Canberra Hospital without being discharged shortly before midday and has not been seen or heard of since.
He was wearing a grey hooded jumper, black pants and brown slippers, and left the hospital with only the clothes he was wearing.
Police hold serious concerns for this man, known as Mijo or Michael.
Mijo is described as 178cm (5’10”) tall, and weighs about 90kg. He has olive skin and grey, thinning hair.
“We’ve got very serious concerns for Mijo’s health, safety and well-being,” Sergeant Warren Williamson said.
“He has been very ill for the past six months.”
Police briefed about 40 SES volunteers on Friday afternoon, with upto 60 people now searching for Mr Galinec in “grasslands, bushlands, waterways, drains and everything else in the area”.
While the search has been centred in the Garran area, Sergeant Williamson said they will expand the search area, noting Action’s has a free bus service for the elderly.
“Our search area is confined to areas of probability, that will extend to areas of possibility, we’re pulling out all stops to try to find him,’’ he said.
‘‘He’s got a large family in Canberra ... they’re obviously very, very worried about their husband and dad at the moment.
“If you’ve seen this man, please let us know where you saw him as we’re really worried he’ll need help.”
Anyone who may have seen him is urged to contact police on 131 444.
