For the past month Suki Dorras-Walker has been sitting outside the front of Parliament House in protest of Australia's offshore detention centres.

"I have always found it deeply troubling," Ms Dorras-Walker said.
"When the crisis worsened on Manus over a month ago, I felt that I needed to do something to send a message of solidarity to the men on Manus."
Ms Dorras-Walker said she did not want to go on with her daily life knowing the men on Manus Island were protesting peacefully. She wanted to send them a message letting them know that there were many Australians standing with them.
"I went to Parliament House one day and I stood there with a sign saying; 'I stand with the men on Manus'," she said.
"And so I decided to be there from 4pm to 6pm every week day and I would send photos to the men on Manus via Twitter and Facebook."
What started out as an individual quest to raise awareness has seen up to 15 regular people join Ms Walker daily.
"It has been a place for people to come who are deeply distressed by what is happening on Manus and Nauru," Ms Dorras-Walker said.
After a few weeks Ms Dorras-Walker said the group wanted to create a symbol of "welcome" for the refugees and display it somewhere for politicians to see. They decided to make a blanket.
"The blanket has evolved out of a desire to do something that is caring and creative. We wanted to send messages of love, warmth and welcome to people in offshore detention.
"Some of us could knit and some could crochet so we thought a blanket would be the perfect metaphor to convey this message."
They called the the project "a warm welcome for refugees".
The group has so far made 82 18-centimetre square patches, one to represent each refugee detained in detention and is calling on anyone who would like to join to contribute.
She said no matter the weather, rain, hail or shine, she and other people have sat in front of Parliament House knitting.
"The main purpose of this is to send a message of solidarity and reassurance to the men on Manus and to each other," she said.
"The responses we have had from the men on Manus have been so wonderful."
She said the men on Manus have sent her messages of thanks.
One read: "I promise sister one day I will meet you doesn't matter where I am but one day thank you so much for your kind heart. I have no words express my gratitude for your endless support, care, fighting on behalf of us."
Friday is the final day the group will come together to knit and to end the year Ms Dorras-Walker has organised a soccer game. The men on Manus Island will play along with their own game.
"We will play for the men on Manus and each of us will have a name of one of the men on our shirts and we will live stream it to them."
Ms Dorras-Walker, who will be moving to Alice Springs next year, said she will continue stitching until the blanket is completed and hopes it will be finished in the new year.
