Michael John Johnstone was one of two men accused of using a stolen Subaru Impreza to bust through security doors and drive into Gungahlin Village shopping centre one night in March.

CCTV footage captured the car as it drove into the centre and reversed through the closed roller security door of the Diamond Ring Designs store.

The footage shows two offenders, who have their faces covered, get out of the car and smash glass cabinets before allegedly taking more than $20,000 worth of jewellery and stashing it in the car.

The two men are then shown jumping back inside the car before they drove back through the shopping centre and fled.

Police said the car was later found torched in Kaleen.

Mr Johnstone, 21, was charged over the incident in April and pleaded not guilty to aggravated burglary, property damage, driving a stolen vehicle and arson during an earlier court appearance.

The court heard blood and DNA which closely matched Johnstone's was found at the scene of the heist, even though he told police he had never been to the shopping centre.

Special Magistrate Margaret Hunter committed Mr Johnstone to stand trial during a brief appearance in the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday.

Mr Johnstone, who is in custody, declined to give evidence or call any witnesses to give evidence.

He did not apply for bail.

The matter will be mentioned in the Supreme Court next week.

Dylan Bowler, 18, was last month sentenced to four-and-a-half years jail after he pleaded guilty to 24 offences linked to a crime spree that included the Gungahlin break-in.
