Mrs Barrie still lives at home, supported by agency IRT at Home.

Longevity runs in the family with Mrs Barrie's sister, Jene, turning 100 last year.

IRT nurse Sharon Kain said Mrs Barrie had a lovely sense of humour and noted that Queen Elizabeth was wearing the same dress in the birthday greeting to her sister and, then, a year later, to herself.

She thought that bit of royal recycling was very admirable.

"She's just the nicest person," Sharon said.

"She is just so inspirational. I hope I'm like her if I get to 100."
