Muted colours and autumnal textures will be the focus of fashions on the field at Canberra's premier race day, the Black Opal Stakes.

Style, elegance and confidence are the winning traits for fashion fillies at Thoroughbred Park next Sunday, according to Canberra's Face of Racing Emily Dibden.
"We're going into the autumn season, moving on to suede and leather, a little bit warmer materials," Dibden said.
"The Black Opal is extravagant, and we always like to see everyone going all-out for their outfits, especially if they're competing at fashions on the field."
No outfit is complete without a captivating hat or headpiece, precariously perched on an immaculately groomed head.
Dibden collaborated with millinery genius Biretta and Busby to create a bespoke piece to complement her outfit.
She said having a unique piece is her key to success.
"We love to see individual creativity and individuality of the outfit," Dibden said.
You look more confident if you know what you're wearing suits you, and you're comfortable in it."
A beaming smile and flawless make-up are also important to ensure the whole look is impeccable.
Despite the fun and flamboyant atmosphere, Dibden said anyone competing in fashions on the field will need to obey the rules of racing.
"Generally we like to see dresses to the knee or below," she said.
"No cleavage, normally with a bit of the shoulders covered up.
"No cut-outs or midriffs ... no crop tops or anything like that, that was reinforced late last year.
"It's all fairly modest, that's what a lady of the races is – an elegant lady who is gorgeous, who is confident, and who rocks her outfit.
"They're not going to a nightclub, it's very different."
Canberra Racing Club chief financial officer Andrew Clark said fashions on the field was an important part of the Black Opal Stakes and men could complement each other with flashes of similar colours at the track.
"It's all part of the excitement and the atmosphere of being at the races, and being here at Thoroughbred Park on a vibrant and enjoyable day," he said.
Wagering grew by 16 per cent last year and about $10 million is set to be staked on the day.
Clark tipped Canberra horses for success and said the locals always "punch above their weight".
