About 11.35am on Friday, the woman had just withdrawn money from an ATM at the Commonwealth Bank at Woden when her purse was snatched.
The offender immediately fled the area. The elderly woman was unharmed.
Members from Woden Police Station executed a search warrant on a unit in Strathgordon Court in Lyons on Saturday morning.
First Constable Mark Scrivens from Woden Police Station said police acted on information received from the public.
The 29-year-old woman was present during the execution of the warrant.
"We want to thank the media and the public for its response to this matter, which has led to a possible suspect being identified," Constable Scrivens said.
Police would still like to talk to anyone who may have witnessed the robbery, or saw the woman in the area around the time of the incident.
