It's official – girls rule in Canberra's inner south as new statistics showed one ACT suburb has a higher ratio of women to men than anywhere else in the country.

New data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, released on Thursday, shows Deakin has only 81 men for every 100 women, less than any other suburb in Australia.
Page was also in the top five female-dominated suburbs in Australia, while Hackett and Ainslie came third and fourth in the ACT by ratio of female residents.
At the other end of the spectrum men seem to prefer living in the inner north, with people in Campbell vastly more likely to be male than any other Canberra suburb.
While there's no definitive reason why Deakin leads the nation in female residents, the boarders at Canberra Girls Grammar School might have something to do with it.
About 80 students ranging from years 7 to 12 call the private school home, which sits on the eastern border of Deakin, possibly helping to tip the scales in their gender's favour.
Year 12 student Alicia Rolfe, who boards at the school, said Girls Grammar wasn't a bad place to call home. "It's pretty relaxed. Sometimes it can get pretty intense, because it's all girls," she said.
"But everyone gets really close and friendly. We [also] feel safe going down to Deakin shops. Nothing bad ever really happens in Deakin!"
Interestingly, Red Hill where Canberra Grammar School and its male boarding students live is one of only 20 suburbs where men outnumber women in the ACT.
Another factor could be the nursing home alongside the Deakin shops, the Grange, which holds more than 130 residents in a self-care complex.
Community manager Jan Munro said about three-quarters of residents at the home were women, which was actually an unusually small number for retirement communities.
"Naturally for a retirement village we have a lot of women but I would say we're doing fairly well in the men stakes, as far as retirement villages go," she said.
"Women outnumber men in the age stakes because women remain healthier as they get older. I think they go to the doctor more."
The most male-dominated suburb in Canberra by a large margin was Campbell, which had approximately 150 men for every 100 women. The huge divide might be due to the presence of military academy Duntroon.
Elsewhere, the statistics showed Acton, Reid, Turner and the hipster-haven of Braddon were all lacking in women, with Ainslie standing as a lone bastion of womanhood on the outskirts of the inner north.
Overall Canberra has roughly the same gender ratio as the rest of Australia, with about 99 men to every 100 women.
The population was also noticeably younger than the Australian average – 26 per cent of the territory's population was aged between 20 to 34, four per cent higher than the rest of the country.
In addition, only 11 per cent of the population was aged above 65 years old, three per cent below Australia's average.
