The day marked the opening of The Canberra Times Art Show, which has been moved indoors for the first time in its history.
Event organiser Ann Ronning said: ''We have been doing the art show since 1998 and for many years it has been positioned near the Balloon Spectacular [on the lawns of Old Parliament House].''
However, wet weather in the lead up to the show had meant structures could not be placed on the grass, prompting a venue change.
Noted artist Chan Dissanayake gave a live demonstration yesterday and another demonstration will be given today by Mark Redzic.
There are five paintings being raffled this year, comprising works by Redzic, Liz Faul, Isla Patterson and two pieces from Jenny Sheppard.
Ms Ronning said this year people would be able to take their paintings home with them as soon as they purchased them, rather than return to collect them at the end of the show.
''This year we are holding the art show from March 10 to 14, so it's a shortened time frame,'' she said.
''We are not going over the two weekends and we realised that people have to work and may not be able to come back and get their paintings. So people can take their art works as soon as they buy them.''
The Canberra Times Art Show raises money for Koomarri, which supports people with disabilities maintain employment and participate in the community.
Last year it raised more than $20,000. During its history, the show has generated nearly $455,000 for Koomarri.
