Lake Burley Griffin has come out on top as the most Instagram-worthy location in the ACT, with new data from the social-media platform naming it the most geo-tagged spot in Canberra in 2017.
The man-made lake and focal point for the national capital was named the top spot in the territory for the first time, with the Australian War Memorial taking the crown in 2016.
Instagram revealed the top location in each state and territory in its end-of-year wrap up. Canberra was named in the top 10 Australian cities, coming in at number eight.
On top of the list was Sydney, followed by Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Gold Coast, Adelaide and the Sunshine Coast.
Byron Bay and Townsville rounded out the end of the top 10 list.
However, none of Canberra's landmarks ended up on the most geo-tagged locations in Australia.
The data does reveal that Australian Instagram users like uploading photos of waterfront views to brag to their friends, with eight of the top 10 most Instagrammed places in the country by the water.
Bondi came in first, with the Sydney Opera House coming in second, followed by Darling Harbour, Manly Beach in Sydney, Sydney Harbour, Surfers Paradise Beach, St Kilda Beach in Melbourne, Brisbane's South Bank, the MCG and the National Gallery of Victoria rounding out the top spots.
Managing director for Instagram in Australia, William Easton, said this year has been a big one for the social media platform in Australia.
"Instagram has long connected people and brands with unique and creative content. 2017 was no different, with 9 million Australians now using Instagram each month," he said.
With this year being the year that same-sex marriage became legalised in Australia, it seemed only fitting that #love was the most widely used hashtag in the country for 2017.
Other notable hashtags used this year were #australia coming in at number two, #instagood at number five, #travel at number six and #fitness at number nine.
While the most Instagrammed locations in NSW, Victoria and Queensland all made the national top 10, many other prominent landmarks were named as the most geo-tagged locations in their respective states and territories.
Among them were Uluru in the Northern Territory, Rottnest Island in WA, the Adelaide Oval and the Tasmanian art gallery MONA.
