Snowy Hydro Southcare chief executive Carol Bennett confirmed current naming rights sponsor Snowy Hydro was one of the corporate partners under consideration but said the aeromedical service was "exploring all options".

The arrival of a new helicopter in April next year could spell the end of Snowy Hydro's 15-year naming-rights sponsorship of the service.

The helicopter is one of a fleet of eight AW139 helicopters arriving in Australia next year after Toll Group was given the emergency helicopter service contract for the ACT and southern NSW, starting next April.

However Ms Bennett said there will still be a dedicated helicopter for Canberra, based at Hume and the Southcare name will be retained.

"We're still keeping the Southcare service intact, the only thing that will change is the name at the front," she said.

"The sponsorship is still under negotiation but that's the only major area of uncertainty."

Ms Bennett said there were several sponsorship options on the table, including naming rights and other corporate partnerships.

"When the Canadian Helicopter Company came on board 15 years ago there wasn't the demand we have now, there's now a bigger community and a bigger need," Ms Bennett said.

"Of course we are talking to Snowy Hydro as they've been our naming rights sponsor for 15 years.

"[Toll's need for one sponsor] is a potential challenge and we don't know how it will be decided.

"The Snowy Hydro Southcare helicopter is a symbol of hope for people in this region though and that service will continue."

One name that can most likely be ruled out for naming rights is beloved Australian entrepreneur Dick Smith.

Although the outspoken business man donated $20,000 to the rescue chopper on Thursday, current sponsor Snowy Hydro has delivered $7 million over the past 15 years.

However a Snowy Hydro Southcare spokeswoman said all "corporate partnerships are under consideration".

Meanwhile the new interim board of the Snowy Hydro Southcare Trust will meet next Thursday to work out what their role will be.

The last board resigned mid-November due to Toll negotiating the major sponsor.

Sandra Georges, Trevor Burgess, Allistar Twigg, Carol Bennett and Mike Castle will join the board with John Rankin to take the helm as the trust's interim chairman.

Mr Rankin said the role of the board was yet to be determined with the change in contract however fundraising would remain the principal task of the trust.

"Like any change in arrangements there are some problems to be dealt with, there are some ambiguities," Mr Rankin said.

The naming rights sponsorship must be settled by the time the new helicopter arrives next April, Ms Bennett said.
