Large portions of Black Mountain Peninsula District Park have been closed off as the government undertakes a major irrigation upgrade in the area.

More than $500,000 will be spent to improve the durability of grass and shrubs in the most popular areas of the 22-hectare park.
Irrigation systems will be upgraded to boost the hardiness of vegetation, preventing wear and tear and erosion while lowering maintenance costs from older infrastructure.
The irrigation system will be extended, while existing spray heads and valves will be replaced. A pump house using non-potable water will also be installed.
The project will cost $547,000 and see the park's playground closed until the end of June.
Construction has already started, with other parts of the park closed to the public, including a shared bike-pedestrian path running close to the lake's edge.
Transport and Municipal Services Minister Meegan Fitzharris said the work would lead to better water efficiency while preserving the park's amenities.
"Black Mountain Peninsula District Park is a popular destination and these improvements will ensure the park continues to be a great place for locals and visitors to the region to enjoy," she said.
"The upgrades will also improve water efficiency, and make it easier for the ACT government to maintain and manage the system, which will reduce costs related to repair system leaks and ageing infrastructure."
Ms Fitzharris said more heavily irrigated grass tended to be more durable when exposed to greater wear, while irrigated shrubs would be healthier in the long term.
She said the upgrades would prioritise work on the most heavily used areas to keep the vegetation hardy, making the area "more beautiful and accessible".
"Black Mountain Peninsula District Park is a wonderful place right on the lake," she said. "It offers visitors a range of activities both on the water and in the park."
Preparatory works were completed last year, while an earlier upgrade to the irrigation system was made in 2014.
Similar upgrades on a smaller scale have been completed at Telopea Park, Fetherston Gardens, Bowen Park, Weston Park, Emu Inlet, Acton Park, Yarralumla Bay and Eddison Park.
