Jeremy Scott Campbell was on trial in the ACT Supreme Court charged with trafficking methylamphetamine and cannabis.
In July 2009, police searched the Mawson home he shared with his mother, Helen Patricia Campbell.
They found bags of cannabis, ice, and cash in concealed drawers in the bedroom.
But the defence argued the drugs and cash could have belonged to someone else - possibly his mother, a drug user with a conviction for sale and supply.
After deliberating for nine hours, the jury were unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
Justice John Burns thanked the jurors for their service and discharged them.
Campbell, 25, is expected to face a retrial at a later date.
He remains in custody, but is expected to make a bail application later this afternoon.
