A jury is deliberating on the fate of a father and son who claim they protected themselves and made citizen's arrests when they beat and bound two youths outside their Bonython home last year.

Sebastian Lewis Hogan, 19, and Andrew Jay Hogan, 49, used a baseball bat, cable ties, and an unloaded and inoperative rifle against a group of teenagers who turned up at their home at 2am one January morning in 2013.
Sebastian Hogan suspected the youths, linked with a gang styling itself "One Life", had smashed up his car the day before.
He warned them they would lose street credibility if they didn't come to his house. The father and son then went outside to wait.
The Crown, led by prosecutor Sara Gul, claim they armed themselves with a baseball bat and a rifle, and set an ambush.
But defence barristers Steven Whybrow and Jason Moffett claim the evidence does not support the Crown's ambush theory, and that the pair were simply acting in self-defence, and used their lawful powers to complete a citizen's arrest of two of the group.
Justice John Burns summed up the case to the jury in the ACT Supreme Court on Tuesday, before sending the jury members out to begin their deliberations at about midday.
He reminded the jury to consider who sought out whom on the night, who initiated the contact, and who were the aggressors.
"Remember that it was dark and that they [the Hogans] were outnumbered two to one by these young men, who had come to their home in the early hours of the morning," he said.
One of the youths, Jake Warcaba, had walked towards Sebastian Hogan with his shirt off, his face covered, and sunglasses and a hat on.
He gave evidence to the court that he simply wanted to shake Sebastian Hogan's hand and smooth things over.
But he also said he wanted to give the son a "chin-up", a warning to change his attitude and advice that he was a nobody.
Justice Burns asked the jury to consider whether that was consistent with someone who wanted to avoid a fight.
Sebastian Hogan hit Mr Warcaba in the head with the bat, before he was tied up.
His father allegedly pointed a gun at another youth, Nathan Krecak, before Sebastian Hogan also hit him in the head with the bat.
Mr Krecak was tied up and allegedly dragged and placed next to Mr Warcaba.
The Crown has highlighted the fact that the Hogans did not call the police or lock themselves in their home, despite knowing the group were likely to be on their way.
Police were called after Mr Warcaba was tied up.
The jury will return to continue their deliberations on Wednesday morning.
