In a case which police have labelled "barbaric" and "cruel", an unknown person in Amaroo has shot and killed a kangaroo with a bow and arrow, leaving the animal's carcass next to a barbed wire fence.

Police believe the person used two black aluminium arrows adorned with green feathers to shoot and kill the marsupial in the reserve adjacent to Wanderer Court.
It was then dragged, possibly while still alive, next to a barbed wire fence, where it was discovered around 2.30pm on Wednesday.
Police think the animal did not die immediately, but from the arrow wounds but sometime later.
Gungahlin police seized three arrows from the location and submitted them for forensic analysis.
