The historic Manuka Pool reopened to the public for the first time in 65 years without a member of the Taverner family.
The clear skies and warm weather brought a steady stream of swimmers to the pool, including Freddy Falter, 7, Fransje DeGraeff, 10, left, and her 8-year-old brother Reimer, left and above.
New manager Bryan Pasfield said he had spent the past few weeks introducing himself to regulars and preparing the water and grounds for a ‘‘new start’’ in the pool’s history.
‘‘They’re predicting a hot and dry summer, so for my first season I’m hoping that’s the case,’’ Mr Pasfield said.
The Taverner family will be remembered at the site through a new cafe, named ‘‘Tavs’’, scheduled to open in mid-November.
Dickson pool also opened to the public yesterday, while the outdoor areas of Canberra Olympic Pool will open on Thursday, November 1.
