An Emergency Services Agency spokeswoman said ACT Fire & Rescue crews were called to the Aurora Apartments on Eastlake Parade about 8.25am.

Firefighters discovered a leaking gas cylinder among the sewerage system, after earlier works at the site.

She said the gas was not at a dangerous level and the area was declared safe as of 9.47am.

No one was evacuated but part of Eastlake Parade was closed.

Two pumpers, the hazmat unit, a breathing apparatus and one commander attended.
