Paramedics assessed three people for smoke inhalation but no-one has been taken to hospital.
Firefighters were called to the De Burgh Street home about 3.10pm and had extinguished the fire by 3.25pm.
An Emergency Services Agency spokesman said
two fire pumpers, the breathing apparatus van, the hazardous materials unit and one commander were on scene.
Oil cooking on a stove sparked the fire, leaving an estimated $5000 in damage.
The spokesman said a neighbour tried to extinguish the fire with a fire blanket before firefighters arrived.
