Knightsbridge owner Bria Sydney, also owns Parlour Wine Bar in New Acton and Elk and Pea in Braddon.
“It’s been 10 years and I’ve got two kids and obviously two other businesses so we were just finding it hard to make time for everything and life,” she said.
Having worked as a manager at the venue’s predecessor Mortis Bar, Sydney took over from the previous owners and opened Knightsbridge in 2004.
“Knightsbridge is my baby. It hasn’t been easy admittedly – I get really upset about it,” she said.
“But I also get really upset when I come home to my kids and I haven’t been able to spend much time with them. So I kind of had to pick which was more important and obviously my children are.”
Sydney said they have had a number of offers from buyers, but are being very picky about who they pass it on to.
“I don’t want to see it change too much. I just want to make sure it continues to be a good little bar,” she said.
“Myself and my partner who built it up love it a lot and really feel like it’s a second home. And we’ve been really lucky to have staff that just really care about working there, so it’s got a little bit of everybody’s soul as part of it, and I really think the customers feel that.”
Despite the pending sale, the Knightsbridge family is looking forward to celebrating their first decade in style with a weekend of celebrations.
On Friday , the “all-star evening” will reunite some of the bartenders from the past decade behind the bar. The main celebrations will kick off from 5pm Saturday.
The theme is superheroes and customers are encouraged to don lycra and dress up as their favourite character.
