While the parties were quiet on election eve, party planners around Canberra were busy polishing glasses, hanging streamers and chilling the drinks in preparation for the official election night soirees.

Despite the outcome of the tallied votes, once polling stops tonight it will be party time for the families and hundreds of supporters and friends of the politicians who have been busy letterboxing, door-knocking and posing for the cameras for the past 36 days.
The Greens are expecting 250 of the party faithful to head in to the Hellenic Club. The Canberra Times was told Meredith Hunter and her team wanted the party to be ''very basic'' and decided against serving canapes inside the ritzy Poseidon Room however guests will be able to enjoy a cash bar.
The two major parties will flock to their regular election night party venues.
