Levi Freeman-Quay, 23, told police he had no memory of the alleged assault that left Matt Pridham, 25, fighting for his life in September last year, court documents show.

Freeman-Quay has pleaded not guilty to the charge of recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm on Mr Pridham.

On Thursday he was committed to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court and was also charged with common assault against Mr Pridham's friend during the same incident.

Freeman-Quay is alleged to have landed a single punch to Mr Pridham during a scuffle outside the ACTEW building next to Bible Lane in Civic about 1.30am on Saturday, September 21.

The alleged assault occurred after Freeman-Quay had spent much of Friday afternoon drinking before he headed into Civic to continue his night.

He told police during an interview that he began drinking at a Calwell pub at 3pm and continued consuming alcohol at venues in Chisholm and Queanbeyan.

Court documents suggest he caught a taxi into Civic with friends just before midnight and kept drinking at Civic nightspots Tongue & Groove and Academy.

Freeman-Quay told police the next thing he remembered after leaving Academy was being

handcuffed by police out the front of Mooseheads.

CCTV footage captured a scuffle between two groups before Freeman-Quay allegedly delivered the punch that caused Mr Pridham to fall backwards, smashing his head on the ground.

Mr Pridham was knocked unconscious and was left with swelling to his brain, a fractured skull, and a facial fracture, according to court documents.

He has since been transferred to a specialist brain-injury unit in Sydney, where he has begun rehabilitation for his injuries.

Freeman-Quay maintained his plea of not guilty to the more serious charge in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday. The common assault charge is expected to be dealt with initially in the Magistrates' Court.

Freeman-Quay will next appear in court in February.
