Capital Metro Minister Simon Corbell said the reference groups would provide an opportunity for community and business leaders along the light rail corridor to provide feedback to the project team ahead of construction.
"The reference groups will allow Capital Metro to hear what our communities and businesses are saying about the project, and act as a valuable forum for members to provide suggestions and ask questions on behalf of the people they represent," Mr Corbell said.
There will be one community and one business reference group each for Gungahlin, Dickson and Civic.
The six groups will follow construction milestones and be consulted about impacts that residents and businesses could face.
The groups are designed to complement the newly established place managers program, which will see Capital Metro staff located along the light rail alignment.
