Work to replace a guard rail on Commonwealth Avenue damaged in a crash six months ago has finally been completed, the National Capital Authority says.

A man was seriously injured when he crashed into the guard rail on Commonwealth Bridge on November 24 last year. Firefighters had to pull the man from his car and he suffered a fractured leg.
An NCA spokeswoman said the crash was serious and affected the the structural integrity of both the inner and outer guard rails.
"To replace the guard rails, NCA has had to arrange components to be custom designed and fabricated by a specialist team of contractors to provide a high quality design that meets current codes and standards," she said.
Complicating the repair job was the age of the bridge.
The Commonwealth Avenue bridge was first designed in 1962 and is now heritage listed, meaning any upgrade or repairs to the bridge had to match both heritage guidelines as well as current safety standards.
The NCA said the job was completed last week pending a final inspection and a completion report from the engineers.
The final cost of the repair works is yet to be determined, the spokeswoman said.
