It has failed to commit any capital funds to the Northbourne corridor with the treasurer, Andrew Barr, announcing plans for a ‘‘Gungahlin to City project office’’ and foreshadowing the establishment of an independent statutory body at a later date.
The Territory government appears to have attempted to recycle previously public plans for the extension of Horse Park Drive from Burrumarra Avenue to Mirrabei Drive by billing the $11.5 million project as one of its ‘‘new capital initiatives’’.
Tenders for the work have already closed and the successful contractor is expected to be named in due course.
Other transport related budget highlights include $100,000 for a feasibility study into a third major bus terminal in the Gungahlin or Mitchell area and the replacement of 90 buses at a total cost of $48.5 million between now and June 30, 2017.
The Nightrider bus service has been extended - at a cost of $100,000 a year - until June 2015 and a major new bus station is to be built on National Circuit between Kings Avenue and Bligh Street.
The $288 million Majura Parkway Project is due to be finished by June 2016 with the bulk of the spending to occur in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015.
The $10 million to be taken from the 2012-2013 budget is to be returned to the project in 2014-2015.
