Surrounded by supportive neighbours and family, Mrs Gloe has also had the vital support of Meals on Wheels to help her stay independent.
This week Mrs Gloe celebrated her century milestone in the same week Red Cross celebrated its 60th national Meals on Wheels Day.
Red Cross manager Grant Watt said it was ''just beautiful'' to be having a joint celebration with a special client.
''Particularly with Canberra turning 100, and Barbara turning 100; it's a great little sign that Meals on Wheels can keep people in their own homes for that long,'' Mr Watt said.
''It is also the social contact - a nice friendly hello or g'day from a volunteer makes quite a big difference.''
Mrs Gloe's son John said services such as Meals on Wheels had been very helpful for his mother.
''Without [it] there is no way that she would have been able to stay at home and make it to 100 living alone,'' he said.
Mrs Gloe has marked the special occasion by spending time with her family, with relatives travelling from as far as Melbourne to join her.
She was given a second party by her neighbours, also keen to help her celebrate. The Australian Red Cross will reach the same age next year, and will continue to provide valuable services like Meals on Wheels to clients just like Mrs Gloe.
Red Cross ACT Executive Director Joan Hughes said Mrs Gloe was one of 650 ACT clients.
''The last financial year we delivered 130,000 meals, using 265 volunteers,'' Ms Hughes said.
Clients can self-refer if they believe they may benefit from the service or they can be referred by a doctor, family member or friend.
