A man accused of having sex with his 12-year-old half-sister was released on bail and ordered not to contact the girl or her mother.

Magistrate Beth Campbell charged the 20-year-old with engaging in sexual intercourse with a child between the age of 10 and 16 on July 9 or 10.

She told the young man that he was to avoid being alone with anyone under the age of 16, as a condition of his bail.

‘‘That is for your protection as well,’’ she said.

The court was told the man usually lives with his father and would avoid the north-side home of the teenager who accused him of incest.

Prosecutor Diana Likeman did not opposed bail and the man is due back in court on August 28.
