Joshua Slattery, 26, did not apply for bail when he appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon on 13 charges, including car theft, speeding, dangerous driving, and driving disqualified.

"I was meant to be going to rehab today," he told Magistrate Peter Morrison as he was remanded in custody.

"That's not going to happen, yeah."

Documents outlining the allegations were not tendered in court as he did not apply for bail.

But a police press release, issued on Monday morning, alleged that Slattery led police on a pursuit through Canberra's inner north in a stolen car before ramming two police cars on Monday morning.

About 5.15am, police patrol saw a stolen white Ford Ranger run a red light at the intersection of Mouat Street and Ginninderra Drive in Lyneham, and activated their lights and siren.

The driver, who police allege is Slattery, failed to pull over and sped away.

Police followed the vehicle onto the Barton Highway before it allegedly mounted a traffic island near Randwick Road.

The police car pulled in behind the stolen vehicle while a second police vehicle parked in front.

As officers tried to arrest the driver, he allegedly accelerated back and forward to smash into the two police cars.

He was removed from the vehicle by police and transported by paramedics to Calvary Hospital for medical assessment.

The man was taken to the ACT Watch House, where he was allegedly identified as a disqualified driver.

He was later charged with a range of offences relating to the theft of the stolen motor vehicle, traffic offences and obstructing a police officer.
