Police said a man, believed to be aged in his mid-40s, tried to coerce the 13-year-old boy into his car, which was parked on the side of the road.
The boy was walking home from a bus stop on Livingstone Avenue near Cutbush Street about 3.50pm when he noticed a car parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights on.
Police say the man inside the vehicle asked the boy for directions to Canberra Hospital and repeatedly asked him to get into his car.
The boy refused and walked away from the man.
Police have described the man as having light brown skin, possibly of Indian appearance, with short black hair and a beard. He was wearing a long sleeve white shirt.
The man was driving a white five-door hatchback described as being a late 90s or early 00s model. The car had black stripes along the side.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
