A NSW man has been bailed after allegedly leading police on an early morning car chase, hitting a gutter, fleeing on foot and later assaulting a police officer.
Michael Tyson Ridgewell was bailed from the ACT Magistrates Court this morning after the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions did not oppose his release.
The 23-year-old has been charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent, furious driving and assaulting a constable.
Police allege they followed the stolen Mazda 3 through Fyshwick, Narrabundah and Red Hill before it struck a gutter on La Perouse Street, causing the tyre to deflate.
The driver, allegedly Ridgewell, got out and tried to flee, assaulting the officer in the process.
The pursuit lasted five minutes, and the Mazda reached speeds of up to 120km/h in a 50KM/H-zone.
Magistrate Beth Campbell ordered Ridgewell not to drive a car as part of his bail conditions.
The accused man is due to face court again in March.
