ACT Policing are investigating the fire that caused about $300,000 damage to the house in Griffin Place, as well as an earlier fence fire at the same address.

ACT Fire and Rescue was called to the property in Griffin Place, Monash just before 5am.

Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames. There was nobody inside the home when firefighters arrived.

Three fire pumpers, the breathing apparatus support crew and a commander were at the scene.

By 5.30am, the fire had been extinguished, and crews were mopping up and ventilating the house.

All visible windows in the brick house with a tiled roof were destroyed by the intense fire.

ACT Policing are investigating the cause of the fire, which has been deemed as suspicious.

An ACT Policing spokeswoman said the man was arrested in Garran on Wednesday and taken to the ACT Watch House, where he was charged with arson and contravention of order.

He is expected to be remanded until Thursday morning to face ACT Magistrates Court.

Police are also calling for witnesses to a fence fire at the rear of the property about 9.20pm last night. The fence sustained minor damage and the fire was extinguished hours before the second fire destroyed the house.

In an earlier, unrelated incident, fire crews were called to a house fire on Summerland Circuit in Kambah, which began shortly after 6.30pm Tuesday.

Emergency services were alerted by a resident who opened their oven to find food on fire. They immediately closed the oven, and the fire had self-extinguished by the time firefighters arrived.

Crews were also called to a car fire on Flinders Way in Griffith just after 2am, and then another car fire on Tidbinbilla Road near Paddys River at 7am.
