Carl Johnson, of Queanbeyan, was arrested on Saturday.

The 23-year-old faced the ACT Magistrates Court on five charges after he was picked up for drink driving and failing to stop at a stop sign.

The additional charges of recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm and weapons offences date back to 2014. .

The court heard police raided the man's house in 2014 where they found a ball bearing gun and steel knuckledusters for which Johnson did not have a licence to possess.

Police notified the man he would be receiving a summons, however the court heard the man moved interstate and never received the notice.

It is alleged that in the early hours of July 6, 2014 Johnson assaulted a 24-year-old man outside Academy Nightclub in the city in a king hit attack.

Johnson and the victim allegedly had an altercation within the nightclub and were escorted outside the premises by security staff.

Court documents allege once outside the venue, Johnson swung at the victim who was allegedly "unsuspecting and appeared to be caught off-guard".

While the victim lay unconscious on the ground, it is alleged that Johnson tried to escape in a taxi before being confronted by witnesses.

The victim was left with a fractured jaw that required surgery to insert a metal plate and four screws.

Through witness statements and CCTV footage police were able to identify Johnson as a suspect and on July 16, 2014 conducted a search of his residence which was then in Gowrie.

Officers allege that when they interviewed Johnson he told them he had consumed a lot of alcohol on the night of the alleged assault.

The man then moved to New South Wales.

Johnson did not enter a plea to any of the charges. He was released on bail on the condition he report to police daily.

He is due to reappear in court on August 14.
