She asked him whether he wanted her to call the police, and he told her he didn't know if he was coming home, she told the court.

Nigel Barlow, 37, and his partner Janelle Lewis, 33, are facing trial in the ACT Supreme Court on charges relating to the alleged kidnapping. They deny the charges and have pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution alleges three people, including Barlow and Lewis, broke into the man's Richardson house on the morning of July 7 last year and assaulted him, before driving away with him in the back of one of two cars.

The witness, who gave evidence at the trial on Tuesday, told the court she had seen her partner get into the back of a green car by himself.

Under cross-examination by Barlow's defence barrister Ray Livingston, she said she had earlier seen the green car coming out of the driveway, but couldn't remember who was behind the wheel.

She had seen Barlow and Lewis standing by a white car, also in the driveway, that she believed belonged to Lewis.

The woman said Barlow had seemed angry when they spoke in the house earlier that morning, and she had been expecting his anger.

Barlow had been allowed to keep his things in their shed in exchange for ice, but his things had been given away or sold, the court heard.

The man may have been exchanging them for drugs, she said

She said that before her partner got in the car she had tried to ask him quietly, so others wouldn't overhear, if she should call police.

He told her he didn't know if he was coming home, the court heard.

Under questioning by prosecutor Trent Hickey, the woman told the court that her partner had looked scared and was almost in tears as he was getting into the green car: "He was in a very bad state."

Barlow and Lewis are charged with aggravated burglary, assault, kidnapping and forcible confinement. Barlow faces an additional two charges of assault over allegations he hit the man later that morning.
