A Canberra man heard knives being sharpened before his neighbour tried to stab him through a screen door and vowed to kill him in an ongoing apartment block row, court documents allege.

The neighbour denied he attacked the man, who allegedly suffered gashes to his hands and neck, and said he'd been cooking when the pair argued over a noise complaint and that was why police found the knives at his Lyneham unit.
Pando Zdravevski, 60, was charged with making a reckless threat to kill and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he faced the ACT Magistrates Court over the alleged dispute on Monday.
He did not enter pleas.
Court documents said the man was in his first-floor apartment when he heard a muffled male voice and someone banging on his floor from below on Sunday afternoon.
He went out on to his balcony, where he allegedly saw the accused hitting his balcony with a shovel as he hurled vulgar insults before telling him to go downstairs.
As the man approached his neighbour's door, he said he heard a noise that sounded like two knives being struck together or sharpened.
The door opened and Mr Zdravevski was allegedly wielding a large stainless steel knife in each hand.
When the man, fearing he would be stabbed, tried to jam the door shut, the accused allegedly thrust the knives through the fly screen before he managed to step outside.
He's alleged to have told the man, "I'm going to f---ing kill you", as he pressed the knife into the man's stomach.
Police allege Zdravevski then swiped the knife at his neighbour's throat, leaving a five centimetre gash as the man begged, "don't do it, don't do it".
The pair tussled as the man yelled at his wife to call police. He managed to escape and run upstairs.
Police arrived and Zdravevski was arrested.
Court documents said he told police his upstairs neighbours were making too much noise so he screamed at them.
He denied he assaulted and threatened his neighbour and said the man had tried to attack him and kicked his door.
Prosecutors opposed bail in court on grounds the accused would reoffend or contaminate evidence, which included knives police seized and alleged were used in the dispute.
His defence lawyer told the court he didn't have a history of violent offending. He also didn't have anywhere else he could live.
Dr Boss said his lack of alternative accommodation was unfortunate and meant she had no option other than to refuse bail.
He was remanded in custody. The case returns to court on May 15.
