The ACT Ambulance Service was called to the Allambee Street property just after 9 o’clock.
Intensive care paramedics arrived a short time later to find the 60-year-old impaled on an ornamental bed head through his stomach.
The paramedics worked for about half an hour with ACT Fire and Rescue firefighters and ACT Policing officers to free the man.
He was stabilised on scene and taken to The Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
